Campus

A modern university is not just an institution facilitating exchange of knowledge between instructors and students. Today, universities are expected to generate intellect in its various forms, which requires a system ensuring multiple-path communication between the participants of the educational process. That is why at the heart of RIOU's architectural concept lie the principles of multifunctionality, transformability, adaptability and multimedia-based learning environment.
The complex covering over 90 000 m² includes four high-rises – an academic and administrative building with an underground parking lot for 270 vehicles, 4* and 5* hotels and an apartment hotel for teachers and students.

The RIOU campus can serve as a model of state-of-the-art building technologies and advanced environmental standards. This multifunctional complex was designed by acclaimed Russian architects Vladimir Korotayev (Grado architectural firm) and Vladimir Plotkin (Reserve production group), in conjunction with PRP Architects, a British architectural practice.

In developing the project, the designers aimed to build an educational facility of the highest standard that can provide, among other things, comfortable housing for faculty members and students, as well as an up-to-date communication platform for sport and business communities. All campus buildings are supported by Wi-Fi and LTE networks and have video conferencing equipment.

The RIOU campus fully complies with barrier free and environmental requirements. During the construction stage, RIOU undertook the BREEAM international environmental assessment and was rated as "Very Good". It is the first of Sochi's Olympic facilities to receive international recognition for quality.

Aligned with cardinal directions, the campus buildings are connected in the centre by a conference hall, the largest in the south of Russia. From a bird's eye view, the structure looks like a compass.

Such an unconventional architectural solution creates four squares on the University's territory.

RIOU's campus can accommodate up to 500 students at any one time with the number of annual graduates from regular and short courses. It can be rightly regarded not only as a key element of Sochi 2014's legacy, but also as a true centre of education, culture and business activity.
