In modern sports athlete's determination to win and his commitment depend largely on his social security.
This was the main topic of a round table held on May 19 as a videoconference organized at the Sochi 2014 Joint Information Center. The panel was composed of outstanding athletes and experts: triple Olympic champion and an executive member of the Presidential Sports Council Maria Kiseleva; the Chair of the Athletes Commission under the Russian Olympic Committee, triple Olympic champion Olga Brusnikina; a member of the Russian State Duma, SG of the Russian Paralympic Committee, multi-time Paralympic champion Mikhail Terentiev and a Latvian MP and Olympic sprint canoe champion Ivans Klementjevs. Other participants include the head of RIOU Research and Development Department Dr. Nikolay Peshin and RIOU expert – professor Sergey Nagikh from the Russian Law Academy.
In his report Nikolay Peshin gave a comprehensive overview of RIOU educational and research programs. He also touched on the theme of athletes' legal protection and their social adaptation after the end of their sporting career.
