The Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) and the RF Foreign Ministry’s Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) are taking a further step in developing their cooperation. In late November they are launching a Strategic Management in Sports course, which is a joint programme in the area of continuing professional development.

Designed by leading Russian and international experts, this innovative course targets professionals with university degrees wishing to enhance their expertise and develop careers in the sports industry. The programme aims to equip the participants with both strategic and operational skills in managing sports organisations in the modern economic environment.

The course content covers diverse areas of sports management, from basics of business to highly specialised subjects, allowing the course members to truly immerse themselves in the profession of sport administration. Among the many advantages of the programme is the opportunity for students to learn from top class professors and business trainers from MGIMO, RIOU and leading foreign universities, as well as internationally acclaimed practitioners from the sports industry. Traditional lectures and seminars will be combined with workshops, case studies, games and business simulations. Some of the classes will be held at the Sochi Olympic venues and offices of Organising Committees of international sporting events and major sports industry companies, so as to ground the learning within a working environment. As an option, course members will have a chance to improve their English language proficiency by attending the English for Sports Management course designed by MGIMO specialists.

Base disciplines will be taught at MGIMO facilities in Moscow, while more specialised courses will be held at RIOU’s state-of-the-art campus in Sochi, a few steps from the Black Sea.

The 18-month programme will be delivered in a full-time modular format, with six-day study weeks.  Upon completion of all qualification requirements, students will be awarded two certificates: RIOU’s Master of Sport Administration qualification diploma and MGIMO’s MBA-equivalent diploma in Strategic Management in Sports. The cost of tuition is 690 thousand RUB. Candidates will be enrolled based on an interview process and submission of documents. Applications are welcome until 1 November, 2014.

The Cooperation Agreement between MGIMO and RIOU was signed in June 2014. Under the Agreement, the two universities commit themselves to working together to establish and promote academic and other types of collaboration in scholarly research and education, with a special emphasis on joint research, educational and consulting projects. The Agreement also provides for the exchange of academics, post- and undergraduate students, visiting researcher placements and student practice programmes.  Other areas of cooperation include exchanging academic literature and publications, as well as organising joint symposia, seminars and conferences.

Further information on the programme and admission requirements is available by contacting MGIMO School of Business and International Proficiency at +7 (495) 434 9153; business@inno.mgimo.ru.
