On 19 October 2020, representatives of the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) met with UNESCO experts, who arrived in Moscow for a meeting of the Bureau of the seventh session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport.

The RIOU representatives and members of the Bureau discussed prospective areas of cooperation in delivering education programmes with a focus on ethics and integrity of sport, as well as in the field of scientific and social research. Special attention was given to one of the most important aspects of future joint activity — anti-doping education efforts.
Currently, RIOU is designing professional development courses, dedicated to anti-doping issues, for employees of Russian sports federations, coaches and other sports and fitness professionals, as well as sports officials tasked with preventing the use of doping in sport and combating doping practices at the level of national sports federations.

RIOU’s courses have the following aims: to provide participants with most up-to-date information on all aspects of doping control; to define the roles and responsibilities of various sports and fitness actors in anti-doping support; to offer guidance on how to comply with anti-doping regulations of the Russian Federation and other relevant national and international regulatory documents.

One of UNESCO’s major goals is to promote cooperation between countries and peoples in the fields of education, science and culture. The first meeting between UNESCO and RIOU representatives established a work plan for future cooperation and identified areas for implementing joint projects.
