  • The Shaiba Ice Arena in Sochi, which houses the All-Russia Children’s Sport and Fitness Centre, recently hosted a masterclass by Ma Changyu, an 11-time champion of China in short track speed skating and currently a student at the Russian International Olympic University. The Chinese skater gave valuable advice and expert coaching to young athletes from Saint Petersburg, Samara and Sochi.    

     

     

  • The potential employers included the authorities of the Krasnodar region and the city of Sochi, the Accor international hotel group, the F1 Russian Grand Prix promoter, and Jet Set Sports (official hospitality provider at the Olympic Games and other sporting mega-events), amongst others. 

     

  • The visit of two leaders of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation – President Ivo Ferriani and Sports Director Normunds Kotans – took place on 13 February as part of the programme of stay in Sochi for the World Cup in these two disciplines. 

  • For Ivan Belyaev, a graduate of RIOU’s first intake, the year of 2014 was marked by a number of events that could be fairly called life-changing. He successfully completed the Master of Sport Administration course, undertook internship at the Sochi Olympics, and a few months later joined PwC. Ivan is currently a leader of an informal RIOU alumni club, and he shared his experiences in an interview with us.   

     

  • The programme aims to provide opportunities for promising candidates to receive training in sports administration, develop skills in managing sporting organisations and venues, and acquire theoretical as well as practical expertise in running high profile international competitions.

  • On December 10, 2014 RIOU hosted an open lecture by Richard Cregan, international consultant and CEO of Rasgaira, an international events management company that provides consulting support to Sochi Autodrom for the Russian Grand Prix. Richard Cregan’s lecture “Build locally, expand globally” focused on the experience of delivering Russia’s first ever Formula One race.  

     

  • Kazakhstan’s sports industry officials and practitioners have completed their professional enhancement training at the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) in Sochi.

  • RIOU’s students on the MSA (Master of Sport Administration) course passed their observation practice at the 2014 Russian Grand Prix. Running from October 6 to 12, this practice programme specially designed by RIOU professors and Sochi Autodrom specialists included visits to venues and presentations by key officials from the Organising Committee. Then, RIOU students met with key officials from Sochi Autodrom last week to engage in an official debrief following their participation in the innovative observation programme at the 2014 Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix.  

  • RIOU students share insights from Russian Grand Prix observation programme.

    Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) students on the international MSA (Master of Sport Administration) course met with key officials from Sochi Autodrom last week to engage in an official debrief following their participation in the innovative observation programme at the 2014 Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix.  The observation programme – jointly designed by RIOU professors and Sochi Autodrom specialists –  provided the RIOU students with invaluable behind-the-scene insights and practical knowledge of the management and marketing of sporting events. 

  • RIOU’s students on the MSA (Master of Sport Administration) programme are having another round of on-the-job training, this time at Sochi’s Olympic facilities. The placements aim to provide the students with deep immersion into real business processes and a chance to apply knowledge in sports management gained through their studies.

  • RIOU Rector Professor Lev Belousov made a presentation at the International Symposium “Sports Diplomacy – Key Element of Public Diplomacy” which was held in Warsaw on 27 October.

     

  • On October 24, the Russian International Olympic University signed a Memorandum of Cooperation withSavonia University of Applied Sciences
