Heads of Russian regions got acquainted with new building technologies applied in constructing RIOU campus

On 20 September, the first working day of the XI International Investment forum Sochi 2012, Tver region governor Andrey Shevelev and Yaroslavl region governor Sergey Yastrebov visited the building site of the Russian International Olympic University. They got to know the methods of territory complex development, advanced building technologies used in the construction, took an interest in ecological decisions in the project.

The RIOU complex of buildings is being constructed in Sochi center. Apart from the academic building, all the necessary social infrastructure is being created here – parking lots, hotels and apartments, the largest conference-hall in the South of Russia. Students will be provided with all the conditions they need not only for studies but also for leisure time and doing sports. The RIOU complex is being constructed with advanced technologies used; special seismic supports are applied to protect buildings from earthquakes and landslides. Specialists were really concerned about creating barrier-free environment complex at the project stage – all RIOU buildings will be accessible for people with disabilities. One of their key peculiarities is applying indoor advanced information technologies. RIOU complex was the first venue of civil engineering in Russia which got the mark "Very Good" under the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings BREEAM. At the moment the campus is in the final stage of construction.

Tver region governor Andrey Shevelev and Yaroslavl region governor Sergey Yastrebov visited the building site of the Russian International Olympic University.

«Last year the RIOU buildings project was given an ecological reward of the Organizing Committee Sochi 2014 for best decisions in sustainable water consumption. Advanced technologies for rainwater basins and further irrigation are to be used. Besides, solar batteries will be widely used in new buildings, which will reduce the amount of electrical energy consumption», - Ivan Moskvin-Tarkhanov, "University Plaza" CEO said to the guests.

«When visiting the building site I made sure once again that olympic construction in Sochi is now one of the largest projects in the country. Advanced methods of complex territory development and up-to-date building technologies are applied here. Approaches to projecting and creating new sports and educational complexes, venues of social and engineering infrastructure seem quite attractive. A lot of innovations in ecological field. Olympic construction experience will be useful for all Russian regions, including Tver Region», - said Andrey Shevelev during the visit.

«We could use the Sochi advanced technologies in building business and hotel facilities in Yaroslavl. Such experience as multi-functional hotel complex construction is indispensable in preparation for holding the World Cup football matches in 2018 in Yaroslavl venues. Ways of using sports facilities effectively after large sporting events should be also a question of vital importance», – Sergey Yastrebov noted.

In his turn, RIOU first deputy general director Victor Nikitin claimed: «The main goal of the University set by the government and the International Olympic Committee is training well qualified staff for the Olympic Movement and sports industry. Apart from further work on staff development courses for managers of different levels, we have high hopes of a new product – "Master of Sport Administration" programme».
