The Russian International Olympic University aims at synthesizing in its activity the experience of classical university and innovative higher education institution. The RIOU Campus architectural conception in Sochi is based on multifunctional and multimedia principles. At the moment the building is being technically equipped including the library, and the library fund is being formed. In December 2012 the first step of installing the library management system VIRTUA of the VTLS company was completed. The project is being implemented together with the official VTLS distributor in Russia – the group of VP GROUP companies. The services are located in a corporate cloud infrastructure. The main goal of installing the VIRTUA system is the automation of management process for the university library fund.
The Head of the RIOU library Elena Tsyganova stated: "VIRTUA will enable a great amount of books to be catalogued in the shortest time possible and the process of providing the staff and faculty with the books to be automatized. In future we are planning to enlarge the opportunities of the library with installing additional VTLS modules".
According to the plans of RIOU development, the library will become an up-to-date open space, accessible for students any time 24 hours a day. It will have all the equipment necessary to meet with teachers and to keep in contact with them on-line. We are planning to get a good collection of literature on history and the development of the Olympic Movement and sports management.
The autonomous non-commercial organization "the Russian International Olympic University" (RIOU) was established on 21 October 2009 under the Memorandum of Understanding between the International Olympic Committee, the Organizing Committee "Sochi 2014" and the Russian Olympic Committee, with the Russian government decree N 774. As founders there were the following structures: the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Olympic Committee, the Organizing Committee "Sochi 2014" and the "Interros" company. The RIOU university activity focuses on preparing highly qualified specialists in sports management for Russian and international sports industry, Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The university educational programmes cover the main areas of sports education: venues and infrastructure management, arranging competitions, mass communications, diplomacy and administration, career management.
