A new 16th volume of the "Russian architectural building encyclopedia" plans to publish a special section devoted to the project of the Russian International Olympic University buildings in Sochi. The news was announced by an editor in chief of the encyclopedia, academician Ephim Basin.
Traditionally, during the preparation to the Olympics, Games organizers publish special editions devoted to architectural features of world sporting events. Such books were issued in "Munich-1972", "Moscow-1980", "Athens-2004", "Beijing-2008", "Vancouver-2010", "London-2012". At the moment a monograph of architectural considerations of the winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi is about to come out. Along with ice stadiums and mountain skiing complex there will be engineering and educational Olympic venues here.
The project of the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) buildings attracted a special attention of the encyclopedia team. It was worked out by architects of Russian engineering companies "Grado" and "Reserve" in conjunction with experts of the British architectural bureau «PRP Architects». The complex of buildings is being constructed by specialists from the "University plaza" company. The project was recognized as one of the best innovations in the competition of the Organizing Committee "Sochi 2014" ecological innovations for introducing a unique technology of purifying and reusing rainwater from the building roofs. Such innovative solutions were highly estimated by BREEAM experts.
