RIOU will take part in the first edition of the "Ashgabat - the capital of Asia-2017" exhibition to be held on April 3-5 at the Sergi Koshgi Palace. This international sports industry exhibition is being organised in the run-up to the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), which Ashgabat will host in 2017, and is supported by Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry, State Tourism Committee, State Sports Committee and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The exhibition aims to promote sport and fitness as a crucial area of social policy, a means of improving the country's international image and an effective tool of encouraging healthy lifestyles in the population by involving more adults, youth and children in sports. It is also viewed as a platform to disseminate leading sport technologies and best practice and provide information on the current trends and developments in sport medicine. Turkmenistan has already completed a number of multi-purpose stadiums with a capacity of 20,000 seats, with more state-of-the-art venues under construction, including indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, velodromes, large and small indoor arenas, as well as service infrastructure – hotels, restaurants, recreation and spa facilities.

The exhibition will bring together specialists from sport, sport medicine and nutrition, designers and manufacturers of sports gear and equipment, fitness and exercise machines, representatives from sport facility construction industry, as well as tourism and hospitality business. Exhibitors will have excellent opportunities for networking and building contacts with prospective partners.

RIOU's stand will showcase the University's innovative educational programmes to both attendees and other exhibitors. According to Alexander Parshikov, Pro-Rector and head of RIOU's delegation, the visit to Ashgabat will also include meetings with the key officials of Turkmenistan's National Olympic Committee and State Sports Committee to discuss prospects for cooperation in training specialists for the country's sports industry.

In 2017 Turkmenistan will be hosting the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), which is expected to attract about 5,500 athletes from 63 countries to compete in about 260 medal events in 19 sports, including spectacular martial arts disciplines, such as muay thai and kurash.
