Recently the Russian International Olympic University hosted a delegation of members of the Committee on Education, Science, Technology and Sport of the lower house of Japan’s parliament. The Japanese lawmakers and representatives of the embassy of Japan in Moscow travelled to Sochi to visit RIOU and the Olympic venues. The guests showed great interest in the current life of the 2014 Winter Olympic host city, as their own country is preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games.
During the visit, the guests toured RIOU’s Information and Resource Centre, library, electronic reading room and lecture rooms, which allowed them to see the quality of the university's research and learning facilities. They also learned about RIOU’s publishing projects and visited its Olympic exhibition displaying souvenirs and gifts from national delegations to the Sochi 2014 Games. The key element of the visit was a meeting with the RIOU senior management team, which focused on cooperation opportunities in the areas of education and research. Of special interest to the guests was RIOU’s training programme for the staff of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, as well as the international Master of Sport Administration course, a one-year programme of further professional education.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants expressed a strong hope that the visit of the Japanese delegation will result in more students and lecturers from the Land of the Rising Sun coming to RIOU.
