The Russian International Olympic University continues its publishing programme: the first Russian translation of a famous book "The International Olympic Committee and the Olympic system: the governance of world sport" by Jean-Loup Chappelet and Brenda Kübler-Mabbott has come out.
On 13 November 2012 it was presented to the Russian audience by one of the authors, Professor of the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP) at the University of Lausanne, Jean-Loup Chappelet, who came to Moscow to participate in the presentation. The presentation was also attended by an honorable President of the Russian Olympic Committee, IOC member, Vitaly Smirnov and RIOU rector, Professor Lev Belousov.
The book "The International Olympic Committee and the Olympic system: the governance of world sport" was published in 2008 by a large world holding "Routledge Global Institutions" in series "World organizations". This edition about IOC – in the form of informative and clear guide – gives the details of history, activities and key personalities in this global structure. The authors provide the reader with a bright picture of how the modern Olympic movement has been developing for decades under the influence of mainstream politics and business, reveal many facts earlier unknown. In conclusion they contemplate about the future of Olympism, what should be done to preserve its ideals. The goal of this book is to analyze how the Olympic system operates, the principles of governing it, as well as to understand if it can survive in the XXI century and under what circumstances.
During the presentation Jean-Loup Chappelet stated: "I hope our work will be highly estimated by Russian readers. Amidst a number of existing historical editions, both objective and preconceived, we set the task to give a general vision of this world phenomenon which unites milliards of people every time when the Olympic flag is waving over a stadium".
"This book is interesting as it enables us to understand the true level of the International Olympic Committee. I suppose it will be very useful for the professional audience: students, teachers, sports federations, clubs executives, journalists, as well as for those who like and take interest in sport. I am glad that the RIOU publishing activity enables us to familiarize with works of renowned experts, who give serious analysis and provide their own vision of solving current problems of sport and Olympic movement ", - Vitaly Smirnov said.
