On 21 December, at the final 2012 meeting, the Council of the Russian Rectors Union approved the candidature of the Russian International Olympic University Rector, professor Lev Belousov as a member of the Union. The corresponding document was signed by President of the Union, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vice President of the Russian Academy of sciences, academician Victor Sadovnichiy.
The Russian Rectors Union, all-Russian public organization, uniting heads of leading higher educational institutions of the country, was founded in 1992. Among members of the Rectors Union there are 13 academicians and 16 correspondent members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The activity of the Russian Rectors Union aims at consolidating academic community to form and realize the integrated strategy of the development of higher school. Among the key tasks in the functioning of the Russian Rectors' Union are increasing the availability of education for all categories of citizens, residing in all Russian regions, maintaining its high level of quality, preserving and building traditions, strengthening authority of the national education system in Russia and beyond its borders.
