RIOU graduates continue to achieve high results in the sports industry. Sergey Komarov, who graduated from RIOU’s Master of Sport Administration course in 2016, played hockey as a child, but chose the legal profession when he entered the Chelyabinsk University. At the same time, he never forgot his dream of doing something connected with sport. When Sergey learned about RIOU, he was still a student and he went to Sochi to check if the Olympic University was a reality. Imagine the surprise of the RIOU staff when the young man arrived at the academic building and asked the administrators to show him the classrooms. The ‘rumours’ about the Olympic University turned out to be true.
After completing his course at RIOU in 2016, Sergey worked for Match Services as head of ticketing in Kazan during the FIFA 2018 World Cup. Then his career in sport paused for a while, until he joined the Krasnaya Polyana gaming zone as a PR manager.
Sergey initiated an open cyber football tournament, CYBER FUN FEST, that took place at Krasnaya Polyana on 23 June. The event brought together participants from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Japan, Mexico, Malawi and Saudi Arabia. In total, about 100 professional and amateur gamers played 64 matches.
The competition went into the Russian Book of Records under the category ‘Cyber Football Tournament on the Largest Screen in Russia’. The technical parameters of the RED ARENA screen are as follows: 36 x 6 sq.m., area 216 sq.m., resolution 2880 x 768.
Some of the RIOU students attended the event. The participants included Koki Nabeshima (Japan), who graduated from RIOU in 2022. His distinct advantage earned him the Spectators’ Choice award.
