The Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) is now welcoming applications for its postgraduate programmes in sports management.
Three flagship courses are being offered for the 2026/2027 intake: English-language Master of Sport Administration (MSA), Russian-language Master of Sport Administration (MSA), and Russian-language Master of Sports Management (MSM).
These one-year programmes provide students with the opportunity to obtain a prestigious qualification of sports manager or to refresh their existing management capabilities in sport. From September to June, participants immerse themselves in a curriculum that prepares them for high-level roles across the sporting landscape.
The learning experience at RIOU is dynamic and collaborative, with interactive sessions in which students engage in real-time discussion of industry challenges and test practical solutions. The curriculum addresses contemporary demands, including vital strands such as digital transformation and social project design within sport. Teaching is delivered by a distinguished faculty comprising leading international academics and accomplished sports management practitioners, who bring a wealth of real-world expertise directly into the classroom.
The Russian-language MSA and MSM courses concentrate on the professional landscapes of Russia and the neighbouring countries, while the English-language MSA programme has a global focus, preparing graduates for careers within international sports federations and organisations. This programme typically welcomes a diverse cohort from approximately 20 nations each year. Graduates receive an internationally-recognised RIOU diploma, emblazoned with the Olympic rings – a hallmark of quality trusted by employers worldwide.
Education at RIOU extends beyond traditional classroom lectures. Students gain insider access to Olympic venues in Sochi and the Krasnaya Polyana alpine resort, take an active part in staging sporting events as part of their practical training, and attend major industry conferences. The vibrant campus life includes a variety of multicultural creative, social, and sporting events.
Upon graduation, students join the RIOU alumni community, a powerful global network which spans over 90 countries with over 110 Olympic and Paralympic champions among its ranks. Over forty RIOU graduates have become regional sports ministers, and in some Russian regions entire management teams are composed of RIOU alumni. RIOU graduates are shaping the future of sport, leading national and local federations, managing major sporting facilities, launching successful sports ventures, and holding senior positions within National Olympic Committees and Ministries of Sport across the globe.
Addressing the prospective students, RIOU Rector, Professor Lev Belousov said:
“The sports industry continues to demonstrate robust demand for highly trained specialists. A modern sports administrator must be able to act as a manager, marketer, PR specialist, and a financially and legally savvy operator who can engage effectively with both government and commercial partners. They must think strategically, build strong teams, and know how to use new technologies, including artificial intelligence. RIOU’s programmes aim to train precisely these kinds of administrators. And a profound passion for sport is the vital ingredient that, when fused with this professional expertise, creates a powerful formula for lasting success for RIOU graduates.”
Applications for study at RIOU can be submitted online via the individual programme pages on the RIOU website, starting from 1 February 2026. Specific application deadlines for each programme are published on the RIOU website.
