From defending a dissertation in Sochi to managing a key Olympic venue in Italy — this success story proves that a RIOU degree is a global gateway to the sports industry. Today, our alumnus Manuel Franchi from Italy serves as an MPC Operations Supervisor for the Winter Games 2026. Read about his journey from the classroom to the heart of the Allianz MiCo in our exclusive interview.

— Tell us about your current role. What were your main responsibilities at Milano-Cortina 2026?
— I was working as an MPC (Media Press Center) Operations Supervisor at Milano-Cortina 2026. My job was to ensure that all stakeholders such as OBS, IOC and Press receive all the required services in order to deliver the storytelling of the Games in an elite environment. All the broadcast services of the world passed through our venue: Allianz MiCo; it's a crucial spot for the delivery of the Games. Here we organise Press Conferences of athletes, IOC and NOCs, we guarantee an efficient workspace for journalists, and everyday there are many activities and details to take care in the management of all the processes.
— What do you find most rewarding about working on such a massive international project?
— One of the best experiences of this job happens everyday, when we can see that everything is proceeding smoothly and people all over the world enjoy the Games with all their greatness and excellence. Aside from a work-related perspective, it's always great to be hosted in the other competition venues and assist the Press with their interactions with athletes, coaches, federations... and enjoy the Games! I had the chance to see the Figure Skating Arena, Ice Hockey Arena and Snowboard Cross in Livigno, on the beautiful Italian Alps. The atmosphere and the joyful environment is what makes everything special.
— How did your education at RIOU prepare you for this career milestone?
— These Winter Games were my goal since I applied for RIOU in 2019, which is the reason why my dissertation was focused on Milano-Cortina 2026. I'm finally able to apply what I learnt in Sochi, especially regarding Venue Management and Communication skills with Olympic stakeholders. Without RIOU's education and expertise (and degree), I would have never had the chance to be here, and to be part of the world's biggest sports event. I can finally say it: it's a dream come true!
